Protein bagels are my take on the infamous “two-ingredient” dough that you may have seen for various other recipes out there. It takes more than just slapping on something clever to make a good hat. With the right designer, you can create more than just a salable item or a marketing tool—you can give your customers something they genuinely love to wear, rain or shine, indoors or out.

We don’t want to add too much protein powder because it will severely dry out the bagels, so one scoop is the limit here. Flour + Greek yogurt combine together to magically form a dough for bagels, bread, pretzels, you name it. Often, the sum of a series of small interventions that have been carefully planned adds up to a result that's greater than the sum of its parts. Research shows we’re most likely to succeed in maintaining any behavior (whether flipping off a light switch when we leave a room, avoiding carbs at lunch, or exercising after work) when we make it a habit.

Instead of a cheat day, Taylor recommends spreading the extra calories throughout the week. And it can open the door — if it’s not already open — to a wide range of disordered eating behaviors. There’s no more iconic oatmeal flavor than maple & brown sugar, so we need to turn those into a batch of overnight oats. @Jerrie, I used a whey protein powder as well (Isopure) and was not able to detect any issues. I've found that they only last a few days on the counter because of the yogurt. They actually freeze really well if you wanted to keep them frozen, then take them out in the morning when you need them!

If sustainable weight loss is your goal, Taylor emphasizes that labeling certain foods “good” and others “bad” isn’t the way to go. It adds moral baggage to every decision you make about food and encourages a black-or-white, extreme approach to dieting. Unless it makes you physically ill, no food needs to be off limits all the time. Taylor is of the opinion that any short-term benefits you might get from a cheat day are outweighed by the harm they cause. I have nothing against eating cookie dough for breakfast, but if you want to have a version that’s a bit more socially acceptable first thing in the morning, these overnight oats are it.

When I stumbled across the ideas put forth in the slow-carb diet though ("slow" in contrast to "low" because one cheat day a week is allowed), I became excited—and not just for my patients. So when my wife noticed me noticing several inches of my abdomen hanging over the sides of my belt one day, she suggested I try the slow-carb diet myself.
